Sears-Peyton Gallery and Fischbach Gallery present Art Benefit for The Brooklyn Waldorf School Saturday, April 9th at 7:00 PM The Brooklyn Waldorf School is thrilled to announce its spring fundraiser: the Beaux-Arts Ball, a jazz-age celebration that will take place Saturday April 9th at the Sears-Peyton and Fischbach galleries in Chelsea. It is the school's biggest fundraiser of the year. Inspired by the Jazz Age and in the tradition of art schools around the globe, the Beaux Art ball will raffle off outstanding works of art donated by established and emerging contemporary artists to raise money for its unique three tiered tuition system. Advance tickets may be purchased at www.beauxartsball.org, where viewers can also preview thumbnails of many of the works online. The works will be hung in Sears-Peyton Gallery from Friday, April 8th-Saturday April 9th for advance viewing. Tickets are $100.00 per person; each ticket is worth 2 raffles. Jorge Nelson, organizer of the event, and aficionado of all things jazz age says, "The Beaux Arts Ball is a celebration of artistic excellence, certainly, but it's also a nod to the artist in every individual, a basic tenet of Waldorf education." "The Beaux Arts Ball embodies two of the school's most dearly held values: artistic expression, and affordable tuition, in one fundraiser," remarks Val Mello, Director of Administration at The Brooklyn Waldorf School, "We are grateful to the artists and sponsors for their support of our three-tier tuition model." The Soiree An adults-only evening, the Beaux-Arts Ball invites appreciators of all things artistic and high-spirited to enjoy the exhibition while downing Prohibition-style cocktails courtesy of Brooklyn Gin, which is using its hand-pressed gin in partnership with Warwick Valley Distillery to produce a signature black current cordial. With wines donated by Park Slope Cellars and Shanghai-style dumplings to fortify them, visitors will raise a glass to the beau monde and kick up their heels to the dulcet tunes of The Hot Sardines, a 1920s style hot jazz band that The Wall Street Journal called a "a plucky two beat outfit." 1920s-style Costumes and masks (think F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Marcel Duchamp, or Charlie Parker) are encouraged. The Art Paintings, sculpture, drawings, and photography that will be raffled off were contributed by 100 artists, including Joe Bradley, Roe Ethridge, Susan Cianciolo, Gedi Sibony, Sheila Metzner and others. Artists represented by Sears-Peyton Gallery and the Danette Koke Fine Art gallery comprise nearly half the works; the others were donated by working artists with a commitment to the tenets of Waldorf education. Says Gaines Peyton, gallerist and mother of two BWS students, "it's a great honor to champion the work of so many established artists - many of whom live and work in Brooklyn -- at our gallery. This fundraiser is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for the community to purchase work by some of the shining lights in the art world." Brooklyn Waldorf School's Three-Tier Tuition Model The 3-tier tuition model is unique to the Brooklyn Waldorf School, whose commitment to diversity - including economic diversity - was created by the school at its founding seven years ago. More than half the students enrolled at BWS benefit from the tier system.
